INFORMAL SETTLERS in areas where priority development projects of the city are for implementation this year are set to receive relocation lot assignments and assistance within the early part of 2024.
City Housing and Development Office (CHDO) In-Charge, Ricky Moreno informed about the current works being rushed-up on a land area in the city’s Barangay Trinidad.
“The city government owns a land beside the existing group of row houses in Barangay Trinidad where clearing and levelling works are being rushed to prepare it as relocation site for informal settlers in areas where development projects are in the pipeline for implementation by the city government this year,” Engr. Moreno said.
It was learned that pending with the Sangguniang Panglunsod is the consideration of Resolution that will authorize Calbayog City Mayor Raymund C. Uy “to endorse and convey the utilization of government-owned Lot No. 6468 consisting of 149,361 square meters to qualified and deserving recipients/beneficiaries.”
“There are 152 informal settlers in 5 locations, including the 53 families in the SIMC area, who are now fully documented for consideration as priority recipient-beneficiaries of respective lot assignment and provision of cash assistance early this year,” Moreno added.

Three projects in the vast of the city-owned lot in Barangay Gadgaran are set to be executed this year with each area occupied by a number of informal settlers, namely: (1)) SIMC site with 53; (2) 28 at the NAPOLCOM Building site; and (3) Dumpsite with 13 families. These development project implementation affects a total of 94 families.
Moreover, 53 families will be affected by the implementation of a development project on the city-owned lot located at the back of the existing city hall compound.
Fifty-one (51) of these families will be needing both lot allocation and cash assistance while 2 houses to undergo partial demolition are considered for payment subject to government standards of assessment.
Meanwhile, the expansion of the required premises for Calbayog District Hospital affected 8 families. These families are also included in the list for relocation.
“Except for the 8 families in the hospital site who will each be provided with 70 square meters of lot, 143 other families in the priority list will be allotted of 48 square meters on which to start building their houses using the financial/relocation assistance that the city government will provide,” Moreno emphasized.
The CHDO-In-Charge also informed that Mayor Uy is in the process identifying sources of funds from the city’s treasury that can be requested for the appropriation for relocation assistance to these informal settlers.
“Work on subdividing the land for the informal settlers will start as soon as the Sanggunian issues the authority of the Mayor to use the land for the informal settlers,” Moreno concluded.(CJ/JMM)
