A Punong Barangay (Village Chairman) dies in the hospital an hour after being shot by a riding-in-tandem in Barangay Nijaga, around 10:30, November 02, 2025 while his live-in partner who was backriding with him in his motorcycle survives.
The fatality was identified as Hon. Rogelio F. Salvame, 50 years old, a resident and Punong Barangay of Guinbayoyan Norte in Calbayog City. His live-in partner is identified as Alyas Jen, 30 years of age and also a resident of Barangay Guinbaoyan Norte.
As of early evening of the same day, a suspect, identified as Alyas Nonoy was arrested.

Reports tell that Salvame and his live-in partner were on their way home on-board a motorcycle. The couple was in the vicinity of Barangay Nijaga when the riding-in-tandem on board an Aerox motorcycle fired shots at the Punong Barangay.
The victims fell-off from the motorcycle but were able to run and hide from the suspects who immediately fled towards an unknown direction.
Reports say that the gunmen were observed to have already been tailing the Punong Barangay and his partner before the attack.
Responders immediately gathered in assistance and brought the victims to a hospital where Punong Barangay Salvame breathe his last at about 11:30AM.
About 3 fired cartridges of .45 caliber pistol was found in the crime scene by elements of the PNP-SOCO.
Manhunt was immediately conducted by the police that resulted to the arrest of one of the suspects. CCTV backtracking was used to establish identity of the suspects.(CJ/JMM)
