We report what matters to Calbayognons at home and in the diaspora — and follow the story wherever it leads, with coverage spanning international, national, regional, provincial, and local news. From the city government and the provincial board to national affairs, business, faith, sport, and culture, our goal is reliable, independent reporting.

Founded
The Calbayog Journal launches as a weekly online news service from a small office in Brgy. Central, Calbayog City.

First magazine
The first print edition is distributed across Calbayog, Catbalogan, and Tacloban. Circulation reaches 5,200 by year-end.

Newsroom expands
CJ adds a politics desk and a culture-and-arts beat. The first investigative series — on illegal coastal reclamation — wins regional recognition.

Through the pandemic
CJ goes daily online during COVID-19. The Morning Tide newsletter launches to keep Calbayognon informed at home and in the diaspora.
