Catbalogan City, Samar — As the nation observes the 12th anniversary of Supertyphoon Yolanda (Haiyan), the Diocese of Borongan called on the faithful to honor the lives lost and renew their commitment to caring for the environment and one another.
In a statement released Friday, Fr. James B. Abella, Executive Director of Caritas Borongan, together with Most Rev. Crispin B. Varquez, DD, Bishop of Borongan, led prayers for the victims of both natural and man-made disasters. The Church also extended sympathy to those recently affected by Typhoon Tino, including residents of Suluan Island, Homonhon Island, Cebu, San Carlos, and Dumaguete.
?“As we commemorate the 12th year since Supertyphoon Yolanda, we pause in prayer for the departed victims... and reflect on the profound gift of Creation entrusted to us, and our responsibility to protect it,” the statement read.
