A former village councilor/chief (Barangay Kagawad/Punong Barangay) and son were killed in a shooting incident that happened at around 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon of December 11, 2023 on a road in Barangay Casili-on, Villaba, Leyte.
The victims were identified as Danilo Mates y Tentiro, 57 years old; and his 7-seven-old son, Dan Kyle Mates y Baay. The former was found dead on the spot while his son was declared dead at Gatchalian Hospital in Ormoc City.
The victims were in the company of Marites Baay-Mates, 52 years of age. She is wife of Danilo and mother of Dan Kyle who, except for bruises and scratches on the different parts of her body, was safe and was not hit by a bullet.
“Mates, his son and wife left their farm (in Sitio Tonggo of the same village) and was on their home aboard a motor bicycle when they were fired upon several times by a still unidentified malefactor who was riding a black XRM and immediately fled the area after the incident,” initial police reports said.
