CALBAYOG CITY – Gandara PNP will file charges against 6 suspects in a shooting incident that killed 2 and wounded 2 others along the river in the afternoon of August 17, 2023 in the Municipality of Gandara, Samar.
Killed in the incident were Sammy Jumadiao, 37-year-old motorboat passenger, and Rolandao Casaljay, a motorboat operator.
Initial reports tell that motorboat operator Casaljay, in an attempt to escape from their attackers, still managed to run but was immediately intercepted by one of the armed men who, with the use of his rifle, had repeatedly beaten the victim causing instantaneous death.
One of the two wounded victims, identified as Teresito Piczon, 58 years old is allegedly an aspirant for the position of Punong Barangay in the forthcoming Barangay & Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE). Also wounded is Marvin Taduyo, 29 years of age.
Wounded victims were immediately brought to Gandara District Hospital (GDH) for immediate medical attention.
All of the victims are residents of Barangay Caugbusan in the Municipality of Gandara, Samar, a village situated almost 20 kilometers north from the población. The village, near the boundary of the Municipality of Sta. Margarita (also of Samar), can be reached via motorboat ride or a hike.

“One of the wounded victims was immediately released from the hospital after having been treated of a wound by a bullet that grazed his body,” Investigator-On-Case PSSg. Ariel Salazar informed Calbayog Journal in a phone interview.
PSSg Salazar further told that the other victim was referred to another hospital for further medical attention.
“We have 3 witnesses whose signed testimonies under oath merits sufficient evidence to establish cases against 6 suspects,” the investigator informed.
“2 of these 6 suspects were actual shooters while 4 others have other participation based on the statements of the witnesses,” Salazar added.
Names of witnesses and suspects are still withheld until filing of the cases that still await the Medico-Legal Reports of both the wounded and fatalities in the incident.(CJ/JMM)
