Catbalogan City, Samar- A 64-year-old woman from Catbalogan City, Samar, was confirmed dead after her house collapsed at the height of Typhoon Uwan’s onslaught early Saturday morning. ?
?The victim, identified as Fe Paroni Resco, a resident of Purok 6, Barangay 3, reportedly returned home to rescue her pet cats and several chickens she was raising for sale after initially evacuating with her family.
According to relatives who spoke with Calbayog Journal, strong winds and heavy rains had already begun battering the city when Resco went back. ?
?Her house, made of light materials, was destroyed around 2:00 a.m., and was further struck by a neighboring house that had also been toppled by strong winds.
Family members said Resco was able to send a message to her grandchild moments before the incident, pleading for help after the wooden footbridge near their home collapsed. ? ?
Despite their immediate search efforts, relatives were unable to locate her due to darkness and dangerous conditions.
Her body was found by rescuers at daybreak. ? ?
