A Head watchman was killed by another watchman in the vicinity of the Calbayog Convention Center, in Barangay Capoocan, Calbayog City, around noontime of June 21, 2025.
The head watchman was pronounced dead-on-arrival at a hospital after having been stabbed and hacked several times.
The victim was identified as “Alyas Baby,” 56 years old, resident of Barangay Carmen and a permanent employee/watchman of the local government of Calbayog City and designated as Head Watchman of the convention center.
The suspect, also a watchman under Job Order employment of the LGU since 2022 assigned in the same facility, is identified in this report as “Alyas Seb,” 46 years old and a resident of the city’s Barangay Obrero. He was on-duty for the day.
Sources say that the incident is rooted from interpersonal conflicts dating back for over 2 years now. Both victim and suspect have been subjected to repeated intervention and counseling by third parties.
Initial reports tell that victim and suspect were seen engaged in a heated argument at their assigned workplace before the incident until the victim was seen leaving the area on his motorbike.
Several minutes later, however, the victim returned to the facility and was seen carrying a bolo (locally known as “sundang”).
Reports further tell that the victim, using his bolo, attacked by hacking the suspect who was hit and sustained wound in one of his arms.
The suspect then retaliated. Using a knife, he stabbed the victim causing the latter to fall over and down to the concrete pavement. At this instance the suspect was able to grab the victim’s bolo and used the same to repeatedly hack and stab the victim.
The suspect was then seen fleeing the scene. He went straight to surrender to the Office of the Punong Barangay in Obrero where police authorities picked him up after he was turned over by the Punong Barangay.
Neighbors tell that the suspect is a quiet person. He is not a difficult person and has no known enemies in his place of residence.(CJ/JMM)
