A retired RTC Judge residing in Tacloban City was killed inside his house in Barangay 77 (Marasbaras) at around past seven o’clock in the evening of November 23, 2024.
The victim is identified as Honorble Crescente Maraya Jr., 79 years old. He was declared dead-on-arrival in a private hospital where he was immediately brought.
The suspect known as alias “JB” is a 17-year-old out-of-school male. He was arrested at his residence in Sitio Taguictic, Barangay San Jose early morning of November 25, 2024. He admitted having committed the crime during the investigation. He further confessed to investigators that he came from a drinking session and used prohibited drugs before the incident. He lost control of himself and entered the house of the victim.
Reports from police investigation tells that at about past 7:00 o’clock in the evening of November 23, 2024, the househelp, while preparing food for dinner, noticed a male person coming out from one of the rooms of the Maraya residence.
Immediately, the househelp approached the male person to find out what brought him to the house at that time of the night to which the suspect replied that the Judge knows him. Upon hearing this, the househelp hurriedly went to the Judge’s room to confirm knowing the male person.
For unknown reason and without the slightest provocation, the suspect immediately went near the victim (Judge) drawing a bladed weapon thereby warning the househelp not get in the way to avoid being hurt and suddenly pushed the suspect inside the room.
Hearing sounds of commotion inside the room and for fear of what it might result to, the househelp immediately ran out of the house to seek help.
Upon the return of the househelp, however, in the company of authorities, the victim was found bathed in his blood while the suspect already gone.
The suspect is presently in the lock-up cell of Tacloban Police Station 1 while charges are being prepared against him.(CJ/JMM)
